Van Halen 5150 Stripe

Alright, I’ll admit up front that I’ve had this shirt for about a year now. It’s a comfortable fit, and the fabric is soft. It doesn’t feel heavy like you’d expect a shirt with this much print to feel. It’s as bright as the day I bought it even though it’s been through a ton of wash cycles. You WILL stand out wearing this shirt. Everywhere except a Van Halen concert, of course. None of that’s why you’d buy this shirt though.
The artwork is based on Eddie Van Halen’s Frankenstein guitar, painted in black, red, and white. 5150, which is over the left breast, is supposedly the LAPD radio code for “criminally insane.” Van Halen has used this ambiguous number for years, with a song, album and his studio bearing the digits.
Even if you’re not a Van Halen fan, hear me out!
The real beauty of this shirt though, is that you don’t have to be a Van Halen fan. Unless someone knows what they’re looking at, they won’t get it. It doesn’t say Van Halen anywhere. It’s just a very unique shirt to anyone that isn’t familiar with VH.
The Van Halen stripe shirt is available from tshirts.com for $20.

Steroids and Baseball T-Shirt

Here’s a shirt for the cynic in you. You didn’t have to read the Mitchell Report to know that steroids and baseball have been linked at the hip for years now. It seems like you can’t even compete nowadays without being juiced. Nevermind that though, I’ve got a shirt for you. A clear parody of the Yankees logo, this tee got a chuckle out of me and will show anyone what you think of baseball these days.
As with most of the shirts at Roadkill, it’s available in dozens of colors and styles. While variety is cool, it’d be nice to have an actual image of the shirt, rather than the faux graphics you see above layered over a photo of a blank shirt. The regular white tee flavor is available in sizes up to 5XL, so even those of you with curiously oversized biceps can wear it ;-).
The steroids shirt is available from Roadkill Tshirts for $14.99.

What’s New at T-Shirt Review Blog?
You’re probably wondering where the hell I’ve been, eh? I’ve been doing a little work under the hood lately and wanted to give you all a heads-up on the new stuff here. Feel free to leave me your comments, I appreciate the input of course.
Changes in the header
Up at the top you might notice the tagline in the title graphic has changed from “So many shirts, so little time…” to “Find your next favorite shirt!” I made this change because I feel it’s a little bit more in line with what I’m trying to accomplish here. I want to help you find something that you’d love to wear, something you’ve just got to have.
The about and advertise links in the upper right are new as well. The old about link was tucked in the lower left corner of the header…many of you probably never knew it was there!
You can now advertise here
I had received some inquiries about advertising and realized I didn’t have a page to describe the options available. Click Advertise in the header to see your choices. An ad here is pretty cheap and reaches an incredibly targeted audience.
You can subscribe to tshirtreviewblog.com via email
At the top of the first sidebar you’ll notice an image you can click to subscribe to my RSS feed. I realize though that some of you don’t use (or prefer not to use) RSS newsreaders, and some of you might not know what RSS is. The link “Subscribe via email” gives you the opportunity to have each post delivered to your inbox like a newsletter.
I have some other improvements in mind, hopefully in February you’ll see those. That’s all for now, back to the shirts! I’ve got some awesome tees in the bank for you, so stay tuned!

Bears Are Dangerous

Here’s another from the funny file. The retro style really stands out to me, and makes it feel like the image came from an old campers guidebook or something. If you pride yourself on being captain obvious, you’re sure to feel at home wearing this. I liked the description as well: “Do not feed the bears. Unless you are a mother bear. In which case, please feed and nurture them.”

Consider yourself proud to be doing your fellow humans a favor, delivering this public service announcement.
Bears Are Dangerous is $20 and is available from Busted Tees.

Be A Panda

This shirt made me laugh. I’ve seen shirts that show a muscular torso before (using the wearer’s head) but never anything like this. It’s like you’re a mascot, but for who? For those red Commie bastards? Mother nature? How about the San Diego Zoo? No matter which angle you hit it from, it’s sure to get a laugh, or at least an amused smirk, which isn’t all that bad anyways.
Be A Panda is available from Threadless from $15.

Science!

Yesterday I came across a themed shirt site, wearscience.com. The designs here are the work of Jeremy Kalgreen, who I’m sure to write about in the future. Each one of these shirts celebrates better living through science in a fun and juvenile sort of way. Some are fictional (duplication of women, anyone?) and others are quite realistic (using thermonuclear weapons to blow a lot of shit up at once). Each shirt is available in a few different color schemes, ranging from $18.49 to $25.49. Here are a couple of my favorites.

Science! shirts are available at wearscience.com and start at $18.49.

It’s Guinness Time!
When you can’t have a beer in front of you, you might as well have a beer ON the front of you. I came across a small collection of Guinness shirts that celebrate everyone’s favorite “meal in a glass.” They’re done in a vintage style, and some of them are adult slim fits, meaning they’ll be a bit snug unless you order a size up from your usual.

I like the pale colors on this shirt. The drab greenish sort of color is a bit unusual and will stand out both in your closet and in a crowd. I have a M*A*S*H 4077th shirt in a similar color, and whenever it’s clean it grabs my attention, being the only shirt close to that color hanging up. It’s printed on the back too, so when you’re hunched over the bar everyone can tell you’ve got a pint of Irish motor oil in front of you.

This one’s my favorite of the bunch. It’s sort of a rusty brown, and I love the way the logo has been faded and beaten up. It looks less like a shirt that’s been through wash cycles (some faux aged shirts just look like old shirts) and more like a clean new shirt with a faded image. I think you’ll get a bit more life out of it this way. Pretty fitting for a 249 year old beer.

This is probably my least favorite, but it does have a few good things going for it. It’s the only shirt that actually clearly shows a perfect pint on the front. The larger text makes Guinness easier to read from farther away as well.

If you’re going to get a Guinness shirt to wear for St. Patrick’s Day, this is the one. Not only do you not get pinched, but it shows that you came prepared for the official beverage of the evening. If you’ve got an Irish background like I do, you’re showing a bit of heritage at the same time. Who would have figured one shirt could do so much for you? The toucans with the Guinness on their bills used to be part of Guinness advertisements.
All these shirts are available from t-shirts.com for $20. They have SEVEN other Guinness shirts, one on sale for $10, and one at an outrageous $28. There are also shirts there for Schlitz, Stroh’s, Jack Daniels, Patron, and Molson as well as non-alcoholic beverages like Pepsi, Coke and Sprite.
