Anyfolk: What Kind of Folk are You?

Steve at Anyfolk.com sent me this awesome tee a while back, and has been super patient with me getting the review out. Anyfolk’s got a real clever approach to self expression that I’ve just got to share with you. Any t-shirt tells you a little something about the person wearing it, but Anyfolk definitely takes this to the next level.
Every shirt at Anyfolk follows the same basic framework, which is best illustrated with this image from their site.

You pick something that interests you, or something that describes who you are or what’s important to you, and you’ll get a tee that fits you perfectly (pun intended). The “O” in Folk is always a picture describing the variable word on the shirt. Though all the shirts are pre-designed, it really felt like a semi-custom experience picking out a tee.
I picked Irish Folk for a few reasons. First, Anyfolk’s website compells you to pick out something that really describes who you are, and I had a lot of fun trying to figure out what best described who I was was. It was an exercise in introspection to decide between Irish Folk and Guitar Folk. St. Patrick’s Day was on the way, and I really wanted a unique shirt, so that sort of pushed me over the edge. On top of that, the clover was really close to an “O” shape, which would make sure people understood the tee.
A small anyfolk.com logo is neatly and quietly centered on the back. While I’m not usually a fan of that sort of thing, I think the anyfolk idea is so cool I want to make sure people know where I got the tee. Hopefully someone will see it and discover they can pick out anything they’d like.

They don’t do custom phrases, but I can understand why. The logistics of managing user-uploaded images and whatnot could really cut into the quality, which I should mention is top-notch. If you don’t see something you like, I’m sure you could email them with your suggestions. They’re adding new tees all the time and you’re bound to find something you like.
Thanks again to Steve at Anyfolk for the shirt!
You can pick out your own Anyfolk shirt for $18 at Anyfolk.com.

Toxic at VanRockn

This sweet tee from VanRockn is one of the more impressive single-color prints I’ve seen in a while. The off-center print is a pretty neat design choice, and was the first think to catch my eye. Upon closer examination you see the man is wearing a gasmask but it’s a vague enough image that you can’t discern too much more than that.
I think it’s pretty cool how VanRockn can evoke so much mood with just a single color print and selective use of shadow. The t-shirt is available in army green, brown, and light yellow. It’s also a snug “vintage fit” so be sure to check out their size chart before ordering. Hats off to VanRockn for another cool design.
You can get Toxic from VanRockn Apparel for $18.

Reminder: Threadless Spring Cleaning Sale Ends 3/26

This is just a reminder that the big Spring Cleaning Sale at Threadless ends this Wednesday. You can pick up shirts for as low as $9 between now and then, so go over and pick out something you like. A lot of the older clearance shirts are only available in odd sizes, but that’s alright: they have a size sorter available, so it’s easy to filter out tees that are only available for people fatter or skinnier than you. There’s a huge selection available, check it out.

Spooning Leads to Forking

As if I haven’t featured enough brown tees in the past, here’s another one that caught my eye. The innuendo is so thick here you could cut it with…well, a knife. That’s really the only bit of tableware not mentioned here, I should add.
There are male and female versions of this tee, and then a women’s wifebeater/tanktop/a-shirt version for about half the price. For the record, it appears that only the men’s version of the tee is brown, as the women’s tee is a snappy sort of greenish.

Spooning Leads to Forking is available for $15 from Brown Turtle.

The Best Places to Find Cheap T-Shirts
Alright, so you’re in need of some new t-shirts but you don’t want to spend a lot of cash. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. You don’t need to start digging through the racks at your local Goodwill or Salvation Army just yet. Here are a few places to get new tees dirt cheap.
Bumpnose.com

All tees at Bumpnose are $5. Seriously. They’re not just one-color designs (which are cheaper to print) either. They’ve got 17 tees according to my most recent count, many of which are funny slogan style shirts. If that’s your thing, you’ve definitely hit paydirt here. Shipping is just $5 too, no matter how many shirts you buy.
Tshirtbordello.com Clearance Section

When you get to Tshirtbordello, you’ll want to click on the word “specials” in the upper right corner. Here you’ll find t-shirts from $3.99 to $9.99. When shipping will cost more than the shirt itself, you’ve really got no excuse to not pick something out. There are currently 19 designs available here, most are funny with an edgy sort of humor. A few border on the slightly offensive. Even though it’s clearance, it looks like all the usual sizes are available. Even the main gallery at Tshirtbordello features tees for $13.99, which is cheaper than you’ll find most places.
When you can pick up tees this cheap, you’ve really got no reason not to grab something if it catches your interest. Take a look around Bumpnose and Tshirtbordello and see if you find something you like.

splatter skull @ van rockn

Here’s a pretty neat tee I found at VanRockn Apparel. They’ve got a bunch of great single-color designs, but this one caught my eye. It reminds me of the concert tees that seem to overwhelm my closet sometimes. I’m not sure I like the yellow, but you can get this design on a white or black shirt as well, which would look pretty sweet. It’s available in male and female varieties.
Splatter Skull is $18 from VanRockn.

Rumplo

Not too long ago I came across Rumplo. It’s a great way to find new tees. Users can submit shirts they’ve found around the web, and designers can submit their own shirts. You can fave and comment on shirts, or click through to buy them. Your profile will show the shirts you’ve submitted or added to your favorites list. It’s a pretty sweet page and Sahadeva Hammari (who runs the site alongside Ian Van Ness) is a stand-up guy.
Check out Rumplo and my Rumplo profile.

My Other Shirt Is Also A Shirt

I’m not sure if this is the ultimate witty t-shirt slogan, or the ultimate statement against witty t-shirt slogans. It is what it is though. When you see “My other car is a Porsche” on the back of a Cavalier you’d be tempted to think the guy’s a jerk, but thankfully that sentiment doesn’t seem to carry into the t-shirt universe. I’m tempted to get this shirt just to wear on those apathetic days when I really don’t feel like putting the effort in.
My Other Shirt is available for $17.99 from College Flavor. They’re currently running a promotion, free shipping on order of just two shirts.
